Sobrinho-Wheeler grew up in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania as he moved with his mom seven times before the age of 10. After depending on affordable housing and services as a child, Sobrinho-Wheeler as an adult has spent his career ensuring that others in need have access to similar support.
Before his first election to the city council in 2019, Sobrinho-Wheeler worked with environmental programs at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a nationally-recognized land policy think tank in Cambridge, which helps land trusts, academic institutions, and community organizations build sustainable communities. Between his two discontinuous terms as a councillor, he was the New England Progressive Governance Director for the Working Families Party.
Like two-thirds of Cambridge residents, I’m a renter. I’m a proud union member, an organizer by background, and a democratic socialist by commitment. I’m the son of a father from Goa, India and a mom from Iowa — so I speak Portuguese and have eaten a lot of sweet corn with butter. I live in Cambridgeport in a triple-decker with my partner Anna and our cat, Eden.
