Provided by the candidate
Jane Hirschi has lived in Cambridge since 1993. Her career has been focused on finding ways to bring hands-on experiential learning to Cambridge and Boston classrooms. As the founder and executive director of CitySprouts school garden program, she brought learning gardens to every Cambridge elementary school and developed a program to integrate nature-based education into the school day. She is the author of two books on the topic of nature-based learning: Ripe for Change (Harvard Education Press, 2015) and We Garden Together with photographer Kim Lowe (Hachette Book Group, 2023). She has been a nonprofit business leader for 25 years and is currently an associate with Interim Executive Solutions, serving as a transitional leader for small to midsize nonprofits in the Boston area undergoing leadership change. Jane is the parent of two daughters who attended Cambridge Public Schools from preschool through highschool.
Jane is running for Cambridge school committee to ensure children’s needs are met and families’ voices are heard. Her priorities are strong science education for every child, starting in the earliest grades; establishing clear goals and accountability for the new superintendent; improved communication between school district and families; and high academic expectations for every child.
