From the Candidate’s Website

Caroline Hunter was born and raised in segregated New Orleans, Louisiana in a Catholic household. After graduating with a degree in Chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana, Hunter moved to New England to work at Polaroid as a Research Bench Chemist. During her time and Polaroid, she participated in the Boston Youth Motivation Program,  tutored adults who did not have high school diplomas, and became certified by Brandeis University to teach GED classes. Hunter co-founded the Polaroid Revolutionary Workers Movement with Ken Williams, her late husband, then organized a boycott against Polaroid Corporation for its involvement in Apartheid in South Africa.

Hunter had a 34-year career at CRLS, starting as a substitute teacher and going on to be a faculty teacher and taught the inaugural AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) class. During this time, she also co-wrote the Concerned Black Staff (CBS) Report of Minority Student Data Report of Achievement (1985-86), which was the first statistical report on the achievement gap at CRLS.

For decades, Caroline Hunter’s selfless pursuit of a better world has led her to effect positive change
